They’re out the traps and hoping to grab your hard-earned 99p. This week’s big new pop singles are starting to settle in to their iTunes chart positions, so we’re going to merge their current progress with our masterful all-things-pop-knowledge (MATPK, if you will) to predict how they’ll end up in seven days’ time.
The Wanted – ‘Chasing The Sun’: The track soared to No. 2 upon its release but seems unable to overtake the rather old, yet still unstoppable ‘We Are Young’ from Fun. We think the physical sales, the EP downloads and the strong individual track sales will be enough to give it a No. 1 lead in the midweeks, but the downside is that the band’s sales tend to dip as the week goes on. We have everything crossed it tops the pile, but we have a feeling it’ll have to settle for a final position of No. 2 or No. 3.
Pitbull – ‘Back In Time’: The soundtrack single from Men In Black III, Mr Worldwide turns his famously hit-and-miss hand to new tune ‘Back In Time’. It’s around the No. 100 mark on iTunes at the moment, but as the profile of the film begins to rise we reckon it could achieve a slightly higher final placement next Sunday.
Jennifer Lopez featuring Pitbull – ‘Dance Again’: Sadly the airplay for ‘Dance Again’ hasn’t been quite what it was for ‘On The Floor’, and as a result this new tune looks unlikely to replicate the same chart success. We think another Top 10 should be on the cards though.
Paloma Faith – ‘Picking Up The Pieces’: Despite shifting a shedload of albums, Paloma – like Marina and the Diamonds – has never had a Top 10 single. Unless tonight’s performance on The Voice proves particularly fruitful, it doesn’t look like ‘PUTP’ will be any different. Still, it could well be her third Top 20 hit.
Vanquish – ‘The Harder You Love’: If it wasn’t for the sudden rise in popularity of Little Mix and Stooshe, people might have taken notice of new girlband Vanquish. But the fact that the “lack of girlbands” now seems to be subsiding has gone drastically against them, and ‘The Harder You Love’ will be lucky to even chart in the Top 100.
