SOS Please someone help MP!
We last fiddled with the content on this page on: 25 September, 2012
Let’s get things straight. We’re not looking for people to make the tea, file documents or spend six hours surfing their mate’s holiday snaps on Facebook. We’re looking for energetic, smart, pop-obsessed loons who consider contributing to the UK’s only dedicated pop site for young people the greatest honour. Got it? Good.
What we expect from you
- You like great pop music. Not in an ironic way. Not as a guilty pleasure. You just love it.
- Your first single was probably ‘Wannabe’.
- You’re prepared to work hard and consistently to create great content.
- You know what MP! does inside out.
- You think great writing for young people puts most high-brow investigative journalism to shame.
- You don’t take the whole thing too seriously.
What you can expect from us
We don’t just say this, we take it really seriously. Especially the karaoke.
- Constant support, advice and mentoring to help you improve your work.
- On site and twitter credits for the work you have done.
- The opportunity to build relationships with people in the music industry.
- The chance to hang out with famous faces without breaking any laws.
- Free music before it’s even leaked.
- Guestlist at gigs, signings, concerts, roadshows, showcases.
- Regular mind-blowing cider / karaoke sessions in London.
Community and social manager
Ensure the safety of our visitors, start and oversee lively debate, and promote our content across the MP! Twitter and Facebook profiles.
JOB 1: 100,000s of teenagers visit MP! every month, and lots of them do very stupid things like post their full address on the One Direction fanmail address page. No one has died… yet. And we want to keep it that way. We’re looking for someone to moderate comments across the site to ensure the safety of our visitors.
JOB 2: You’ll also be responsible for replying to (some) comments on the site, twitter and Facebook; and starting and continuing lively (but legal)debate.
JOB 3: You will promote the site’s content on our massively successful and generally top-notch Facebook and Twitter profiles.
3/3 would give it a go?
Drop us a line then. Send us a link to your twitter and 2 reasons you’re so keen to make the world maximumpop.co.uk a better place.
Pop Diary event lister – from home
We tell everyone that MP!’s Pop Diary is the biggest collection of pop event listings anywhere. It’s probably not true, but it makes us feel good. Signings, gigs, TV performances, first radio plays – all listed.
We’re looking for people to work with the Pop Diary manager Rachel to find, list and update pop events. You’ll be detail-obsessed, great at discovering events, and have a minimum of a few hours a week to spare. Hands up, this is the most laborious of jobs we have available but is absolutely essential for the running of the site, and would suit someone looking to gently ease their way into Pop World.
Love hard work?
Drop us a line with some details about you in the style of a dating advert, and the time you have available.
Pop writers – from home
If you can spot and identify a boyband nipple at 15 paces, know a key change better than your local locksmith and have a compromised social life due to your pop obsession, we want to hear from you.
We’re looking for pop loving writer-types to submit *daily* music news stories. Stories like Cheryl’s on tour, Britney is running out of ideas, and One Direction are still fit when they’re a cartoon. We’re expecting you to write and post 2 – 3 stories a day.
Did we have you at ‘nipple’?
Write two gossip articles following the tone and format of MP! and then complete this.
Photographers – London based
We’re looking for London-based photographers and camera people to document gigs, concerts, signings and interviews both during the day and in the evening. Skills for getting silly content, awareness of Who’s Who in pop, and an ability to boss around young people a definite advantage. Happy to wear a humiliating MP! t-shirt? You’re hired. You’ll need your own camera.
Snap, snap?
Contact us with examples of your photos or video and details of your availability.
Pop reporters – London based
Gigs, signings, showcases, launches – we’ll get you in there, you’ll get us exclusive pop gossip from those in the know. You’ll form a formidable and affable duo with the photographer to document these events in MP!’s unique style. If you have no shame, a better relationship with your dictaphone than with your family, an address within the M25, and an easy way with famous faces this could be for you.
On the list?
Drop us a line we’d like to hear why your perfect for the role, the time you have available and the first single you bought.
Film writers – London based
MP! – 80% pop, 10% film, 10% books. We’re looking for popcorn-loving film fanatics to create film content, attend daytime and evening screenings, interview stars and be the voice of cinema on the site. We need someone with an encyclopaedic knowledge of film and an ability to make it exciting to young people. If you’ve watched all the Twilight films and enjoyed them, we’ve got two things to say: you poor sod, and: why haven’t you applied yet?
Show me the over-priced hot dog?
Drop us a line we’d like to hear why your perfect for the role, the time you have available and three films you think every teenager should watch and why.
Books writers – from home
MP! – 80% pop, 10% film, 10% books. We need people to write words about words. If you’re a total bookworm, have plenty of time to read multiple titles and can recommend great reads for young people in an interesting and exciting way then we need you. LIKE, REALLY NEED YOU. We’ve always struggled with making reading exciting for under 18s, so you’ll have loads of ideas of how to present the content to make it more exciting than that leak of Gaga’s latest video.
Like a challenge?
Drop us a line we’d like to hear why your perfect for the role, the time you have available and your favourite YA book and why.
Contributors
Books, film, pop – you’ve got plenty to say but no time at all. We accept one-off or very ocassional contributions but expect them to precisely follow MP!’s tone of voice and style. We can’t offer support and multiple-rounds of feedback to one off-contributors. Know you’ve got it nailed? Have access to an event or a pop star? Think we’re doing this whole thing totally wrong? Then get in touch – we’d love to hear your ideas.
