Carly Rae Jepsen, Calvin Harris, The Voice… It’s a pretty boring week in the charts
Comment
Carly Rae Jepsen is Number 1 for the fourth time this week, making ‘Call Me Maybe’ the 7th best-seller of 2012 so far and edging out the midweek leader from Calvin Harris. The producer’s latest tune ‘Let’s Go’, featuring Ne-Yo, settles for Number 2 and is the highest new entry in a relatively dull week for big arrivals. A few tracks from The Voice’s Battle Rounds make quiet comebacks a little further down – Stereophonics’ ’Dakota’ (Number 29), Kings of Leon’s ‘Use Somebody (Number 35) and Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ (Number 39) to name three – but other than that it looks like the big chart action is being saved for next week, when Tulisa and Cover Drive attempt to dethrone Carly from the summit. Tulisa’s taken the early lead on iTunes… can she do it?

Don’t Miss: Cover Drive – ‘Sparks’ music video
Comment
MP!’s Bajan BFFs are back with the music video for their third single ‘Sparks’ – the slow burning midtempo track is accompanied by the story of band mates Amanda and T-Ray hanging out with other, less exciting love interests, despite the fact that they clearly have the hots for each other. In the end, the couple manage to work it out – but we can’t help that feel that if the pair had just remembered the impressive, perfect dates they revealed to us in our Big Interview then this whole thing could have been sorted out much quicker. T – for future reference, Amanda likes ice cream on a first date.
Either way, the song is sure to be another chart hit and the video makes us want to pack a bag and take the first plane to somewhere with a beach ASAP. Check out the video for Cover Drive’s ‘Sparks’ below.

Jessie J covers Rihanna’s ‘We Found Love’ for BBC Radio 1′s Live Lounge
4Comments
Wondering if pop warbler Jessie J’s cover of ‘We Found Love’ earlier today in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge was better than the original? Well we’ll save you 3 minutes and 17 seconds of Jessie trying to hit every single note possible, rather than follow the melody of the song and say NO. But that doesn’t mean it’s not worth hearing – there are flashes of warmth and genuine amazing talent in there that remind us why we used to think Jessie J was going to be the best pop star on the planet.
Listen to Jessie J’s cover of ‘We Found Love’ by Rihanna below.
And for the record, here’s our favourite cover of ‘We Found Love’:

Who wants to join maximumpop.co.uk for a well-behaved night out this weekend? Only joking. We’re going to get pissed and watch chart-topping Cover Drive sing ‘Twilight’ at a smelly venue – and we want your company. Starboy Nathan’s there too if you’re interested. Not watching Take Me Out this Saturday 11 February, can get yourself and a mate to The Garage, London for 8pm, and actually have the desire to attend? Good. Here’s what you need to do:

Comments
He’s 2 foot tall, covered in blue fur, and in his short two week life span he’s already been molested by Cover Drive, Lawson, Parade and Oh My! No wonder he looks so uncomfortable. Say hello to MP!’s mascot and the one who does all the hard work… Braithwaite. Follow Braithwaite on twitter.

The winner is… Cover Drive vs Professor Green vs Lana Del Rey
UPDATE: After personally calling and thanking the 12 people who took the time to vote in last week’s Song of the Week poll, we can officially announce Lana Del Rey is the winner and is rewarded with a coveted spot somewhere on the right of the website. The real winners are obviously Cover Drive who were not only MP!’s pick of the week, but are currently 14 positions above Lana on iTunes, at number 1. Not that we took it personally or anything.
We don’t want to ruin this article but we’ve already decided that Twilight by Cover Drive is the best song in this week’s Song Off. Read on for a greater understanding of the thorough investigation that took place to reach this conclusion, plus vote and comment in a useless attempt to prove us wrong.
