RIP JLS: Five classic tunes we’ll never forget! – gallery
- Beat Again (2009). Their first single and easily one of the best debut singles from a boyband – the fact that this is still catchy as hell, danceable and memorable after nearly five years says a lot about how good they are when they're doing some damn fine tuneage. A classic pop tune and a BRIT Award-winning one at that.
- Everybody In Love (2008). Their follow-up single and it definitely proved a huge hit with the ladies (and lads) as the boys crooned in a R&B-pop beat that would later become the template sound for the rest of their subsequent albums. A gooey, sultry jam that made us all melt too.
- The Club Is Alive (2010). You can't deny that maybe sampling 'The Hills Are Alive' from 'The Sound of Music' was a weird choice but it's still an endlessly fun song that remains a staple song for UK nights out. Add liberally to three alcopops or beers and you'll have a blast in the club.
- She Makes Me Wanna (2011). Their last true barnstorming club song and easily in the top 3 songs they've ever done – a solid RedOne production and a killer rapped middle eight from singer Dev make this a blissful song that deserved both an incredible summer and an international hit.
- Proud (2012). Their Sport Relief charity single from those big-hearted dudes; yes, it's a ballad but it's plenty uplifting and a great performance from all the fellas, proving they can do the inspirational ballads as good as anyone else.
After six years together, our collective hearts all broke a few weeks ago when those fine fellas Marvin, JB, Ortise and Aston announced that after a farewell tour at the end of the year, JLS would be splitting up for good after kickstarting a boyband revolution here in the UK. No more ridiculous man-cleavage, Aston backflips or lots of shirtlessness on stage. Needless to say we were very sad. *sighs*
Now we’ve just about recovered enough, put aside the tissues, CDs and empty tubs of ice cream, we’re looking back and finding our top five classic tunes from the JLS boys who’ve made us feel like the hottest in the world so many times…

Marvin JLS gets his own radio show. POP BITS.
POP BITS. There must be champagne popping all over the Humes-Wiseman household. Congratulations are in order all around. Not only did Rochelle score her first ever number-one with the Saturdays and ‘What About Us’ over the weekend it’s also been announced that her hubby (the eight-packed Adonis that is Marvin from JLS) will be getting his own weekly radio show on Capital FM.
The show will be Fridays 7-10pm, just about the right time to set us up for a night out, and will play a mixture of chart-hits and club tracks. An excited Marvin said to Capital FM, “It’s an absolute honour to become part of the Capital family, the JLS boys and I have always had a close relationship with the team and it only felt right to grab this opportunity with both hands”. Sounds like Marvin is about to become the soundtrack to everyone’s weekend.
But how will this impact the recording of the new JLS album? Is this Marvin’s first attempt at breakout solo stardom? POP BITS OUT.
JLS gigs are going to last longer. POP BITS.
POP BITS. There’s always that irritating moment at gigs when you realise all but two of the hits (the finale and the encore) have been performed and your favourite band have been on stage for over an hour, which means it’s gonna finish up soon. Well, JLS fans, fear no more. Marvin has promised that the shows in their next tour are going to be longer in order to squeeze in more hits.
“They’re usually about 90 minutes but we’ll have to make it closer to two hours,” said arguably the most attractive Marvin in the world. “We’re not shy about putting on a good show for people and already have got ideas about how we’re going to make it unique.”
The band hope to have their fifth album out by the time the start their tour in November and want to perform songs from all five albums. They’re going to start recording the album next month and are working with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins who has been responsible for some huge hits. We can’t wait for the album and the tour. JLS & Gary Barlow form a new boyband supergroup. Sort of. POP BITS.
POP BITS. Back in December a lucky audience at a Gary Barlow gig at Manchester Apollo (if an audience at a Gary Barlow gig can ever be considered ‘lucky’) were treated to a very special performance of Take That classic ‘Back For Good’. In a meeting of boybands past and present, Gary was joined by the beautiful harmonising boys from JLS.
Has Gary passed the torch onto JLS? The performance is taken from Gary’s live DVD (imaginatively called ‘Gary Barlow Live’) which also features Nicole Scherzinger and Mark Owen and is in the shops from Monday 4th March. POP BITS OUT.
MP!’s Fit Awards – Fittest Group that aren’t One Direction
The Brit Awards 2013 contains far too many dull popstars, and far too many dull categories, so we at MP! have decided to create our own awards. Rather than rewarding dullness, we’re rewarding the things that really matter – brilliant hair, odd trousers, fanatical instagramming and omnipresent nipples. We’ll be announcing the categories and the nominees over the next few days and will announce the results alongside the (now largely irrelevant) Brit Awards results on Wednesday.
FITTEST GROUP THAT AREN’T ONE DIRECTION
We looked at the Brits’ Best British Group category. Then we fell asleep a bit. There’s quite a lot of boring bands on the list. So we decided to do a much more fun Fittest Group award. But we know you guys. We knew One Direction would walk it. So we’ve disqualified One Direction on account of them being too pretty. So who’s the Fittest Group that aren’t One Direction?
- STOOSHE – Courtney, Karis & Alexandra just want you to love them. The brightly-coloured neon-haired ladies have a distinct look that makes them stand out from the rest of the pop crowd. Are these the girls for you?
- JLS – The original princes of boyband super stardom have been overtaken by 1D and The Wanted. But do Marvin & co. still push your buttons? They're likely to get their nipples out for votes. That's got to help?
- THE WANTED – They're not bad to look at are they?
- LITTLE MIX – One Direction are very prettY, but Little Mix are also very pretty, but in the girl way. Which is different. Our favourite X-Factor winners keep getting prettier and prettier. It's just not fair!
- UNION J – Without doubt these guys have the best wardrobe in pop (Josh's jacket being the exception here). Possibly even better than One Direction's. But they also have immaculate hair and nice faces. If 1D aren't careful, Union J could overtake them as our new crushes.
- DISTRICT 3 – 3eeks: ASSEMBLE! Our favourite ab-flashing, cheesey dancing teens need your votes. These boys are favourites amongst MP! HQ. We're going to spend the next five hours voting for them.

BEST HAT IN POP
Popstars love accessories. It what makes them popstars and us mere mortals. The greatest accessory of all-time is the hat. That’s a fact. They hide all that amazing popstar hair and help keep all the pop magic in their brains. Here are some popstars wearing hats. But whose hat is the best?
- JESY NELSON – This is an amazing hat. In this picture Jesy has seven eyes. How many do you have? And that's why Jesy is better than you…
- CONOR MAYNARD – No-one is a more dedicated wearer of hats in pop than Conor. We think that's where he keeps his magic pop brain. But Conor doesn't mix it up sticking with the same style which could lose him points in this hat-off
- MISHA B – Controversial second appearance for the eyeball hat. Was Misha B fabulous enough to pull it off better than Jesy? Let's find out…
- RITA ORA – We've seen Rita Ora wear this hat quite a few times. For good reason – it's a very good hat. Hats are just one of the accessories Rita uses in her repetoire.
- ORITSE JLS – Who wants to be a milliner? Oritse does. He wears hats a lot. It's normally just a trilby or a cap. But here he is teasing some of his next hats. We think the fluffy white one would really set off his eyes.
- NATHAN SYKES – Nathan triples up on hats here in a blatant attempt to triple up on votes. But lack of originality might cost him dearly.

BEST BREAKTHROUGH NIPPLE
This year there have been some pop nipples that have refused to go away. No matter how hard their owners have tried, these pesky attention-seeking nipples have managed to make appearances here, there and everywhere.
- HARRY JUDD'S NIPPLES – It’s widely known that after ‘Obviously’ and that wedding speech, Harry Judd’s nipples are one of the best things McFly have ever done. Inseparable, they are never without one another. Our favourite pop twins – sorry Jedward – they are sharing a nomination.
- ASTON JLS' LEFT NIPPLE – Seen nationwide on JLS’ 4th Dimension Tour, perhaps pop’s most prolific nipples have made their presence felt all year. But whilst Aston’s right nipple has demanded more privacy citing exhaustion, Aston’s left has made a break for solo stardom.
- JUSTIN BIEBER'S RIGHT NIPPLE – Justin Bieber’s nipples used to be very shy and retiring and were always overshadowed by Justin’s hair. However, having come of age and turned 18, the nipples are forging a pop career of their own, now accompanying Justin on stage on his Believe tour. Hopefully we’ll see them when Justin tours the UK. Here is his right nipple being typically obnoxious.
- HARRY STYLES' THIRD NIPPLE – Possibly the world’s most highly anticipated nipple, Harry Styles’ third nipple gained fame after being seen on a yacht in Australia with Harry and the rest of One Direction last year. An oddball – widely considered the joker of Harry’s nipples (there are four of them) – we wouldn’t be surprised to see Third Nipple in rehab before 2013 is over.
