Little Mix, Marcus, Amelia Lily, Misha B… How The X Factor 2011 lot measure up
Comments
With Amelia Lily’s single out in the open and Misha B due to release ‘Home Run’ this weekend, now seems like a good time to take stock of last year’s X Factor crop and see how everyone’s faring. The 2010 run of the show proved particularly fruitful, with Rebecca Ferguson, One Direction, Cher Lloyd and Aiden Grimshaw all equalling and, in many cases, bettering winner Matt Cardle; and with the 2011 group firing out the traps particularly early, let’s see how they line up…
GOOD NEWS: CONTAINS NO MATT CARDLES
Marcus Collins and his trusty bow tie debut ‘Mercy’ music video
Marcus Collins’ ‘Mercy’ video is here, and aside from the catchy strut-a-long production and impressive vocal acrobatics, the most attention-grabbing thing about it is that the X Factor runner-up has had musical notes shaved into his actual hair! Kudos to whoever wielded the scissors for that particular work of art… but we think we’ll pass on having something similar done ourselves. Check out the video below…

If you were put off by his rendition of ‘Seven Nation Army’ then fear not – this new cut is a self-written toe-tapper that will sound great at top volume in warm weather.

T4′s Koko Pop is back, and the impressive line-up for the first in the series sees X Factor contestants Alexandra Burke and Marcus Collins take to the stage alongside new girlgroup Stooshe. Don’t Miss: Marcus Collins’ ‘Seven Nation Army’ video and b-side
The impressively shiny Marcus Collins has dropped the music video for his debut single ‘Seven Nation Army’ (a cover of the White Stripes hit) – it includes Marcus dressed a bit too much like Olly Murs, Marcus being fondled by woman’s hands and Marcus being kidnapped by a group of women. We’re not entirely sure what they’re getting at there, but it’s all quite fun.
But even more impressive is the clip of his new b-side, ‘Break These Chains’ which is about 60x more poptastic and sounds like something Cee-Lo Green would cook up. Watch the video for ‘Seven Nation Army’ and listen to ‘Break These Chains’ below.

Behind the scenes of Alexandra Burke’s new video, Marcus Collins’ debut single, Britney and Shakira collaboration, Tulisa solo news and JLS team up with amazing producer – gossip!
The lucky blighters at Digital Spy got to reveal an exclusive preview of Alexandra Burke’s music video for ‘Elephant’. We love a good dance routine at MP! so we’re feeling optimistic. However, if you’re one of those fans that were disappointed by the lack of actual elephant noises in the song, you’ll be devastated to learn that we didn’t spot a single trunk in the behind the scenes clip.
Fans of bizarre and rushed covers rejoice. Basically Marcus Collins has unveiled his, er, interesting take on White Stripes anthem ‘Seven Nation Army’. It’s definitely no ‘Swagger Jagger’, ‘What Makes You Beautiful’, ‘Bad Boys’, ‘Bleeding Love’, ‘Beat Again’ (you get the picture…) but if you fancy listening, click here.

Sound the collab alarms - apparently Britney Spears and Shakira are lining up to drop a single together later this year. In true dreams come true style, Will.i.am AND Pharrell Williams are said to be producing the hit-in-waiting for the two lovely ladies. Hopefully this will be more a case of ‘Beautiful Liar’ than ‘Big Fat Bass’ *crosses fingers*
Anyone excited for the upcoming JLS album? WELL WE ARE. The oily chested boys tweeted that they’re working on brand new songs with legendary producer Darkchild. Don’t recognise the name? Let’s just say he’s responsible for some of the best pop songs ever. Exhibit A. Exhibit B. Exhibit C. Case closed.
Shut off the collab alarms and sound the Tulisa siren – The X Factor judge and guiding light to Little Mix has revealed that she’s ready to shoot the video for her debut solo single and that we can expect to hear it within the next two months. But what does it sound like? ”It’s one of those tracks that you don’t get bored of.” (We’re getting our hopes up for Fergalicious 2012).

The Saturdays recording new material, Rihanna to duet with Coldplay, Marcus Collins releasing debut album and limited edition The Wanted mag out now – gossip!
Despite the fact that we uncovered their sick notes last week, The Saturdays have hinted that they’ve returned to the studio to record new material. The girls have already confirmed that they’ll release their fourth studio album this year, but what with Una’s pregnancy and rumours of a music video for ‘The Way You Watch Me’ being filmed with Travie McCoy, we certainly weren’t expecting it so soon. Also, Mollie stands on her toes when recording songs. Thrilling stuff.
After reaching 2 billion views on YouTube, Rihanna decided to celebrate the best way she knows how. And no, we don’t mean getting wasted and grinding in the club. Taking to her infamous Twitter account, Rih-Rih announced that she’ll be sharing the stage with Coldplay at this year’s Grammy Awards to perform their collaborative effort ‘Princess Of China’. Rumour has it that they’ll also treating everyone at the Brit Awards to the duet too. So much for that holiday, eh Rihanna?
It sounds to us like one of Tom Jones’ fellow The Voice UK judges has a bit on an unhealthy obsession with him. Can you guess who came out with this nugget? ”I get to hang out with Tom Jones soon. We’re going to dinner together. I’m just looking forward to seeing what he orders, to see what he eats.”Is he a no-carbs man? Does he just have soup or salad?” Well put it this way, if Tom Jones turns up dead next week, we’re going with Jessie J, in the restaurant, with the soup poison.
This one is an update for your mum. Sensible crooner Marcus Collins is going to become the first of last year’s X Factor’s contestants to unveil an album, with his debut currently pencilled in for release on March 12th. He’s been working with Gary Barlow and you can pre-order the… Zzzzzzz. Oh, sorry, must have dozed off there. Little Mix need to hurry up, right? Right.
Remember magazines? Well you should because contrary to popular belief, they do still exist. And you might be interested to know that the new issue of Top Of The Pops magazine is a The Wanted special. 68 pages (68!) of exclusive interviews, photos and limited edition posters. Go forth teens of Britain and strip the shelves of your local WHSmith bare.
You probably won’t recognise her name yet, but Azealia Banks is set to be one of 2012′s biggest stars – and the pop Gods have dealt her a lucky hand this week. After creating ridiculous amounts of online hype with her song ’212′ (warning: definitely not for the easily offended!), Azealia revealed that she’s been signed to major record label Universal and is hoping to release her debut album in May or June. Watch this space!
