With Amelia Lily’s single out in the open and Misha B due to release ‘Home Run’ this weekend, now seems like a good time to take stock of last year’s X Factor crop and see how everyone’s faring. The 2010 run of the show proved particularly fruitful, with Rebecca Ferguson, One Direction, Cher Lloyd and Aiden Grimshaw all equalling and, in many cases, bettering winner Matt Cardle; and with the 2011 group firing out the traps particularly early, let’s see how they line up…

Marcus Collins’ ‘Mercy’ video is here, and aside from the catchy strut-a-long production and impressive vocal acrobatics, the most attention-grabbing thing about it is that the X Factor runner-up has had musical notes shaved into his actual hair! Kudos to whoever wielded the scissors for that particular work of art… but we think we’ll pass on having something similar done ourselves. Check out the video below…
Marcus Collins to release second single ‘Mercy’ on June 3rd: Pop Diary

Hairdresser-turned-X Factor finalist-turned-White Stripes’ fanbase-botherer Marcus Collins has announced his second single ‘Mercy’ will be released on June 3rd. If you were put off by his rendition of ‘Seven Nation Army’ then fear not – this new cut is a self-written toe-tapper that will sound great at top volume in warm weather.

The impressively shiny Marcus Collins has dropped the music video for his debut single ‘Seven Nation Army’ (a cover of the White Stripes hit) – it includes Marcus dressed a bit too much like Olly Murs, Marcus being fondled by woman’s hands and Marcus being kidnapped by a group of women. We’re not entirely sure what they’re getting at there, but it’s all quite fun.
But even more impressive is the clip of his new b-side, ‘Break These Chains’ which is about 60x more poptastic and sounds like something Cee-Lo Green would cook up. Watch the video for ‘Seven Nation Army’ and listen to ‘Break These Chains’ below.

Speaking about the tracks on his debut album, Marcus reveals that X Factor mentor Gary Barlow HAS penned a track. “It’s so good, it’s a disco classic. It’s unbelievable, it’s called ‘Feel Like I Feel’… Telling you now, there’s nothing he can’t do”.
Marcus, Barlow and disco? We definitely didn’t see that coming. We’ll believe it when we see it, or should we say hear it, when Marcus’ debut album drops on March 12th…

The lucky blighters at Digital Spy got to reveal an exclusive preview of Alexandra Burke’s music video for ‘Elephant’. We love a good dance routine at MP! so we’re feeling optimistic. However, if you’re one of those fans that were disappointed by the lack of actual elephant noises in the song, you’ll be devastated to learn that we didn’t spot a single trunk in the behind the scenes clip.
Fans of bizarre and rushed covers rejoice. Basically Marcus Collins has unveiled his, er, interesting take on White Stripes anthem ‘Seven Nation Army’. Shut off the collab alarms and sound the Tulisa siren – The X Factor judge and guiding light to Little Mix has revealed that she’s ready to shoot the video for her debut solo single and that we can expect to hear it within the next two months. More X Factor news. After reports that Kelly is not planning to return to the 2012 series it now looks like Gary’s also jumping ship. The big boss Simon Cowell says that he thinks Gary will be tied up with Take That commitments this year as the band prepare to release a new album. Si admits that the “show takes over your life, it is not a two day a week show.” Funny how Louis always manages to find the time…
Katy Perry has defended herself after the uproar over her on-stage flirting. Katy was pictured indulging in some kissing and nipple tweaking with audience members in the final shows on her California Dreams tour, seen by some as disrespectful to her ex. But Katy pointed out on Twitter that “I have *kissed* 1 boy, picked randomly out of the audience, on the cheek as a part of my show for all 125 tour dates. Simmer down now.” Hear, Hear!
X Factor runner-up Marcus Collins,(remember him?) announced last week that his first single will be a cover of White Stripes 2003 hit ‘Seven Nation Army.’ We can now reveal that the single will be released on March 4th with his self-titled debut album following on March 12th. Gary Barlow serves as executive producer whilst Marcus has also been in the studio with Brian Rawling who’s worked with Girls Aloud. The album will be a mixture of covers like ‘Your Love Is Lifting Me Higher’ and Janelle Monae’s ‘Tightrope’ as well as self-penned material. Better get a move on Little Mix!
In romance news Rihanna has been spotted partying in the same club as ex Chris Brown. The pair were spotted leaving a club in Hollywood on Sunday night. They drove off separately but it seems a bit fishy right? Wonder how Chris explained that huge tattoo of his girlfriend’s face on his arm?
Bruno Mars has taken the honour for the best-selling digital song in the world for 2011. ‘Just The Way You Are’ sold 12.5m downloads across the globe throughout last year, with ‘Grenade’ coming in second with 10.2m downloads sold. LMFAO’s ‘Party Rock Anthem’, Jennifer Lopez’s ‘On The Floor’ and Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ complete the top 5.
JLS have been chatting about their brand new album! Speaking to Digital Spy the band have revealed they’re already halfway through their fourth album which they see as going “back to our roots” and have been working with a number of different producers in LA including Babyface, Sean Garrett – who’s one of America’s biggest songwriters, and Bangladesh who’s previously worked with Rihanna. Aston also hints that they’d love to work with man of the moment Ed Sheeran, saying “we think we could do something amazing together in the studio.” Get in line, Ed’s the most popular boy in school at the moment…

Despite the fact that we uncovered their sick notes last week, The Saturdays have hinted that they’ve returned to the studio to record new material. The girls have already confirmed that they’ll release their fourth studio album this year, but what with Una’s pregnancy and rumours of a music video for ‘The Way You Watch Me’ being filmed with Travie McCoy, we certainly weren’t expecting it so soon. Also, Mollie stands on her toes when recording songs. Thrilling stuff.
After reaching 2 billion views on YouTube, Rihanna decided to celebrate the best way she knows how. And no, we don’t mean getting wasted and grinding in the club. Taking to her infamous Twitter account, Rih-Rih announced that she’ll be sharing the stage with Coldplay at this year’s Grammy Awards to perform their collaborative effort ‘Princess Of China’. Rumour has it that they’ll also treating everyone at the Brit Awards to the duet too. So much for that holiday, eh Rihanna?

You probably won’t recognise her name yet, but Azealia Banks is set to be one of 2012′s biggest stars – and the pop Gods have dealt her a lucky hand this week. After creating ridiculous amounts of online hype with her song ’212′ (warning: definitely not for the easily offended!), Azealia revealed that she’s been signed to major record label Universal and is hoping to release her debut album in May or June.
