Pop Star Connections: Rebecca Ferguson to Katy Perry
Comments
Last week we proved that even the most unlikely faces in pop can be connected by showing you how to get from Taylor Swift to Rebecca Ferguson in six easy steps. But we’re not done there. Today we’re continuing the chain by exploring the links between Rebecca and Katy Perry – don’t think we can do it? Think again…
STEP 1. XENOMANIA – Rebecca worked with a whole host of impressive faces on her Platinum selling debut album Heaven, including the poptastic powerhouse that is Xenomania. Most famous for their work with Girls Aloud, Xenomania are a production team that have penned many of the best pop singles over the past few years.
STEP 2. THE WANTED – Xenomania came back from a brief dry spell and started working with high profile pop groups again last year and not only were they responsible for The Saturdays’ ‘All Fired Up’, they also contributed one track to The Wanted’s much anticipated second album – the stirring ‘I’ll Be Your Strength’.
STEP 3. LAWSON – As you probably heard over the weekend (and if you didn’t, where have you been?!) Lawson have been announced as the second support act for The Wanted’s 2012 arena tour – and this isn’t even the first time the boys have been on the road together, as Lawson also supported the band in 2011!
STEP 4. AVRIL LAVIGNE – Of course, that’s not all Lawson got up to last year, having also opened for Canadian songstress Avril Lavigne during her UK tour. (Team MP! were at one of the shows. Avril lost her voice at the end, but it was a brilliant gig.)
STEP 5. KE$HA – You might be wondering what exactly the punk pop princess and trashy electro pop cannibal Ke$ha have common, but did you know that the same man was responsible for some of their biggest hits? Yep, Dr Luke (the brainchild behind ‘Girlfriend’ by Avril) was the executive producer of Ke$ha’s debut album and was even one of the people who originally discovered her!
STEP 6. KATY PERRY – We could be lazy and point out that Dr Luke also helped mastermind the rise of Katy Perry, but we have an even better connection to share. Before she’d even made a name for herself by appearing on Flo Rida’s hit single ‘Right Round’, Ke$ha randomly agreed to appear in the music video for Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed A Girl’. But as far as we know the two girls have never locked lips.
Is there anything we don’t know here at Maximum Pop!? See if you can leave us speechless by suggesting two pop stars that you think could never be connected and we’ll give it a shot next week.

Rebecca Ferguson on Harry and Caroline, another Jessie J duet, Example’s US deal and Beyonce’s bootylicious pest- Gossip!
Rebecca Ferguson have you met pot and kettle? The singer has jumped on the bandwagon and had her say on Harry Styles and Caroline Flack, commenting that “there’s something not right about the relationship.” This off course comes after Rebecca dated teenager Zayn last year. In the interview Becs admitted her romance with Zayn just didn’t work and she ended up dumping him in a phonecall but at least her bf was old enough to go to a bar and drive her home. Take it outside ladies.
Example is the latest Brit act to sign a major US deal. He signed on the dotted line with label Mercury/Universal last week and already has big plans for his time in the States, writing on twitter: “I really do hope I find success in America. I wanna tour the entire country and eat ribs every day.”
A big Amy Winehouse charity concert is being planned for this summer with stars invited to pay tribute to the late singer. Amy’s father is in talks to stage the event in London and televise it on a pay-per-view channel to raise money for the charitable foundation set up in Amy’s name. Stars like Lily Allen and Jessie J are rumoured to be performing.
Lady Gaga has given the world’s youngest popstar, Blue Ivy Carter a special present- a onesie with the words “Little Monster” in pink diamante. Apparently Aunty Gaga also included a note telling Blue to wear it to her first Gaga concert. How amazing would it be if Beyoncé asked her ‘Telephone’ co-star to be Godmother Monster?!
In more Beyoncé news the superstar has added to her growing brood by having an insect named after her. Yep that’s right a rare horsefly found in northern Australia has been named Beyoncé because of its prominent golden behind. Despite it’s bootylicious bling the insect is actually considered a pest by local farmers, the constant warbling gets a bit annoying when you’re trying to plough fields.

Pop Star Connections: Taylor Swift to Rebecca Ferguson
From surprise collaborations to heated online feuds, everyone in the pop universe is connected in some way. Yep, EVERYONE. You might be raising your eyebrows at the back, but prepare to be amazed as this week we show you how country warbler Taylor Swift is connected to X-Factor star Rebecca Ferguson in six easy steps…
STEP 1. NICKI MINAJ - After expressing her love for the pink-wigged, foul-mouthed rap superstar, Taylor was joined on stage by Nicki Minaj to perform a stellar cover of her hit smash ‘Super Bass’.
STEP 2. BRITNEY SPEARS - Nicki and Brit Brit became best buddies (or something like that) after taking the Femme Fatale show out on the road together. Nicki (normally the shy and retiring type…) even jumped on the remix of ‘Til The World Ends’. It wasn’t great guys, it wasn’t great.
STEP 3. LADY GAGA - There’s about a hundred ways we could link Britney to Gaga, but we’ll go for the best one we know. Before it became one of her biggest hits (thanks to THAT video), Beyoncé duet ‘Telephone’ was originally penned by the Lady herself for Britney to include on her Circus album. She turned it down and the rest, as they say, is history.
STEP 4. REDONE - At one point you could barely move without hearing that infamous “REDONE” cry over a track on the radio. But despite lending his name and extraordinary producing skills to many pop classics, RedOne is arguably most famous for his work with Gaga, including songs like ‘Just Dance’, ‘Poker Face’ and ‘Bad Romance’.
STEP 5. ONE DIRECTION - We’ll be honest, we haven’t been able to stop playing ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ long enough to hear most of One Direction’s debut album, but we DO know that one track in particular (‘Save You Tonight’) was produced by RedOne for the boys. We’ll get around to it, promise.
STEP 6. REBECCA FERGUSON - Taylor Swift and Rebecca Ferguson have more in common than you think – both have released albums that are all about boys that broke their hearts. And of course, after their unusual romance ended whilst Rebecca was in the studio, it’s safe to say that Zayn’s ears should be burning…
And there you have it. Taylor Swift to Rebecca Ferguson in six easy steps. Didn’t think we could do it, did you? See if you can stump us by suggesting which two random pop stars we should try and connect next week!

Cher Lloyd’s getting hitched, Bieber says no to sex and you could duet with JLS! – gossip!
Cher Lloyd is all grown up,*wipes away solitary tear of pride.* According to reports she’s engaged to her bf of six months Craig Monk! They might not have been together long but Cher has already been showing off her new sparkler to friends and family. We’re keeping everything crossed that this rumour is true, that wedding dress would be epic!
Sounds like we can look forward to a few more years of kerazy Bieber lyrics like “she woke me up daily, don’t need no Starbucks,” he’s just not ready for sex songs, OK? In a new interview Justin says he won’t be singing about partying, drugs and sleeping around anytime soon, “I’m into love, and maybe I’ll get more into making love when I’m older. But I want to be someone who is respected by everybody.” Um he hasn’t forgotten about Selena has he?
During a Q&A at last night’s Skins premiere, one particular cast member (who we won’t name in order to save her from further embarrassment *cough Dakota cough*) revealed to a stunned audience that she DOESN’T LIKE NANDO’S. Her cast members booed her, she stopped being our favourite, and MP! Thing’s stomach growled…
Gabrielle tribute act Rebecca Ferguson is releasing her new single next month. “Too Good To Lose,” out on February 26th will be the second release from Rebecca’s album Heaven which had the biggest first week sales for a debut female artist last year, take that Jessie J.
Fancy singing karaoke with JLS? The boyband have teamed up with Brit Award sponsors Mastercard to offer fans a personal karaoke session. Emeli Sandé and Labrinth are also taking part and not only will the winner get to sing with their favourite act, they’ll also get VIP tickets to the awards AND their duet will appear on telly. MP! could totally challenge Aston in the high notes…
Jumping on the reunion bandwagon, Mel B has hinted at a Spice Girls reunion, she reckons this year’s Olympics would be the perfect place for the comeback. Someone needs to convince Victoria though, apparently she’s worrying about her singing ability. We wouldn’t worry about that Vic, no-one wants to hear you sing. Just shoehorn Geri into the Union Jack dress, shuffle about a bit and it’ll be hailed the greatest comeback since, well the last Spice comeback.
