Selena Gomez wants us to ‘Come & Get It’. POP BITS.
POP BITS. Fresh from admitting she made Justin Bieber cry and starring in proper-adult film ‘Spring Breakers’ pop starlet Selena Gomez is ready to re-launch. She’s revealed the artwork and title for her next single, but hasn’t actually let us hear it yet. We’ll have to wait another 12 days for that apparently. Selena seems to have ditched ‘The Scene’ and adopted a, erm, brave new look with leaves, seashells, beads and what looks like a proper rip-roaring scream. Jelena is over, but is our love affair with Selena over too? POP BITS OUT.
Five pop stars still waiting for their first #1
When their 13th single ’30 Days’ bombed out of the charts after approximately 30 seconds, it looked like The Saturdays were forever doomed to girl-group bridesmaid status. But with the help of a TV series, a cameo from Sean Paul and their catchiest release in a long while, they’ve finally broken the curse and can now stand proudly alongside the likes of The Spice Girls, Girls Aloud and Sugababes as bona-fide chart toppers. About time too!
So, who does that leave still on the waiting list for entry into the Number One club? Here are a few of the most high-profile residents of planet pop who haven’t quite gone the distance yet…
- He may be the biggest teen pop icon on the planet, but Justin Bieber's highest-charting UK hit, Boyfriend, was held off the top spot by his own support act Carly Rae Jepsen.
- Still, at least Justin can say he's done better than ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. She's only cracked the UK top 40 once so far – when Naturally rose to #7 back in 2010.
- Taylor Swift has had two singles peak at #2 so far – Love Song and I Knew You Were Trouble. But she's still waiting on that elusive first number one.
- Ellie Goulding's cover of Your Song was a massive Christmas hit in 2010, but it couldn't quite sneak past the X Factor Finalists annual charity single 'Heroes'. She's had plenty of hits since, but never come so close to hitting the top.
- Lawson have had an impressive run of hits from their debut album Chapman Square, but they're still waiting for a number one to propel them into the boyband big leagues.
- The 14-single wait for a Number One might have felt like a lifetime for The Saturdays, but pop diva Janet Jackson racked up an amazing 34 hit singles between 1986 and 2006 without ever getting higher than #2. So take heart Bieber & co. You're in pretty good company…
Selena Gomez admits she made Justin Bieber cry. POP BITS.
POP BITS. We now know that Jelena is definitely over. And hold on tight, it’s about to get exciting. Various shots have been fired between Team Taylor and Team Styles post-Haylor-break-up but it looks like that skirmish will be nothing in comparison to the all-out war between Justin and Selena that’s about to break out.
Last night Selena went on the David Letterman show to talk about her new film ‘Spring Breakers’ which is out in the UK on April 5th. Talk turned to Selena’s love life with Selena announcing that she’s “so single and so good”. Letterman then declared that the last time Selena’s ex-boyfriend, one Justin Drew Bieber was on his show, David had made Justin cry to which Selena retorted, “That makes two of us”, with a laugh.
Wow. That’s fightin’ talk. It’s on. POP BITS OUT.
Bridgit Mendler’s ‘Hello My Name Is…’ – amazing album alert!
Britney, Christina, Demi, Miley, Selena… every single one of them is a bonafide pop-princess that got their big break with Disney and have gone on to have bigger and brighter things. So there’s a lot of pressure riding on the latest Disney graduate and pop-princess-in-the-making, Bridgit Mendler, star of ‘Lemonade Mouth’ and ‘Good Luck Charlie’.
We don’t think she’s got much to worry about though. For a start, she’s already got the MP! seal of approval. We’re meeting her tomorrow for an exciting interview too. Then of course, there’s her debut album ‘Hello, My Name Is…’ which comes out in the UK on March 18th.
It’s typical pop-princess fare, by which of course we mean it’s amazing. A solid, sweet debut with plenty of nice mid-tempo tunes running through it. There isn’t a duff-track on the album and there’s enough versatility for everyone to find something they love. ‘Top of the World’ and ‘City Lights’ are nice and catchy while ‘Hurricane’ (which sounds very Cher Lloyd with its pop-rap) and ‘Blonde’ pack a tiny but mighty punch. ‘All I See Is Gold’ is a real highlight, a slower, slightly darker song where Bridgit gets to really show off her vocal ability. Then of course there’s the awesome lead single ‘Ready or Not’ which you won’t be able to get out of your head until June 2014. That catchy.
The whole album sounds like an early Demi Lovato record, full of guitars and lyrics sassier than a Real Housewife after three margaritas – weirdly though, it’s Bridgit’s Selena Gomez-esque vocals that sell just as well. The album’s the equivalent of an ice cream sundae – it’s sweet, it’s innocent and on the right summer’s day, it will really hit the spot.

Selena Gomez is coming out of pop retirement after 4 months
In February, Selena Gomez – now the grand old age of 19 – announced that she was taking a long break from the pop world so that she could focus on her film career. The ‘Love You Like A Love Song’ amazingness-manufacturer said she and her band ‘The Scene’ were parting ways after churning out three albums in less than three years, but now, just four months later, has revealed plans to get back in the studio. She said: “I want to go for producers that probably wouldn’t want me to do their songs,” she said. “I also want to work with Fun… I also want to work with Taylor [Swift] too. So I just want to do different things for this album. By the time it comes out, I’ll almost be 21, so I want to be able to — wow, that sounds really scary! I want it to be older.”

Selena Gomez & The Scene – Hit The Lights – Alarm Pop
Comment
It’s official – Disney star and girl that everybody is jealous of (she’s making out with Justin Bieber every day, remember?) Selena Gomez has announced that she’s taking a break from working on music with her band The Scene in order to go back and concentrate on her acting. And we genuinely couldn’t be more devastated.
Selena Gomez & The Scene have released some of the most poptastic songs ever written, including their latest album When The Sun Goes Down which was, in Team MP!’s opinion, absolutely perfect. So in an attempt to move on, today’s song of the day is the final single released before the split – ‘Hit The Lights’. Watch the video below and pay your respects. RIP Selena Gomez & The Scene *weeps into pillow*
What do you think? Selena Gomez, Hit The Lights - sh*t or hit?

Thing hangs out with Oh My!, TW on Ellen, Blue Ivy Carter’s musical debut and Cheryl and Rihanna’s duet- Gossip!
The Wanted brought their patented blend of great hair and British charm to the USA when they taped their appearance on The Ellen Show yesterday. Apparently host Ellen DeGeneres personally invited the boys after she heard their music; this lady helped launched Bieber so is a pretty big deal. Bet Max is wishing he’d dressed up a bit more now…
MP! favourites Oh My! are showing the newest member of the team, Thing, the time of his life today. They’re giving him a guided tour of London (he’s only been here a few days, he got stuck on the Central Line for 7 hours yesterday) and filling him in on lots of pop gossip. If he’s brave enough he might even ask them to re-name him. Lets see if Jade and Alex can do any better than Cover Drive…
Is Cheryl Cole giving out free cake or something? The singer has reportedly bagged another big name to work on her new album. Following Taio Cruz and will.i.am, Rihanna is apparently dead keen to record a duet with Chez and is in talks to collaborate on a “party anthem”, something along the lines of Whigfield’s ‘Saturday Night’ we hope.
She’s already the most famous baby in popland and now Blue Ivy Carter can add the honour of Youngest Popstar Ever to her list of achievements. The three-day-old daughter of Beyonce and Jay Z has had her cry sampled on Jay’s new track ‘Glory‘, a gushing ode to his little girl. Just a thought, but shouldn’t Jay be at home changing nappies instead of recording? Have a word B.
Disney UK has just launched Superbia– the first ever online game for kids inspired by Disney Channel shows. With digital areas for hit shows like Selena Gomez’s Wizards of Waverly Place, users can choose their own personalised avatars, customise outfits, and visit the virtual homes of their favourite Disney Channel characters. MP! have already been playing for hours…
Tonight Thing is skipping his Tuesday Knit-a-Popstar class for an exclusive preview of the new series of Skins (it’s his second favourite show after Countdown). The latest series continues the stories of the third generation of characters. Keep your eyes out for Thing’s review coming later this week.
