The Saturdays take America: 5 things we’ve learned…
Comments
Things have been a wee bit quiet on planet Saturdays since ’30 Days’ hit the top ten back in May, but the girls have been far from idle – not only recording new music but also making some serious legwork over the pond, where they’re gearing up to launch themselves onto an unsuspecting American public. Could they follow the likes of Adele, Ellie Goulding and One Direction to the top of the US charts? Here’s what we’ve learned so far…
They’ve got a new single coming out!
It’s called ‘What About Us’ and as well as being their 14th(!) UK single, it’s also going to be their very first American release in January 2013.
They’ve already nabbed some Hollywood fans!
Celebrity gossip blogger and self-proclaimed ‘Queen of all Media’ Perez Hilton has been championing the girls for months, and they’ll be performing their first ever American show at his ‘One Night in LA’ event this Thursday, alongside Rita Ora, Far East Movement and US X Factor winner Melanie Amaro. Not a bad start!
They have their own American TV show!
These days you’re nobody in the US of A until you’ve got your own reality TV show following your every move. Despite not technically being famous in America yet, the Sats have landed a fly-on-the-wall documentary series on the prestigious E! channel – home of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The series will follow the girls in their valiant efforts to make it in America.
They’re going to all the best events!
Una and co certainly aren’t wasting any time during their extended stay in the States. They’ve managed to nab tickets to this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, where they’ll be partying with the likes of Rihanna, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift! Blimey!
They haven’t forgotten the UK!
British fans need not worry that the Saturdays have “done a Natasha Bedingfield” and abandoned their home shores forever at the first whiff of a US hit. ‘What About Us’ will be released here in the UK before the girls kick off their American campaign. We’ll be able to bring you all the details very soon, but the buzz is that it’s going to be a big one!
So there you have it. If Little Mix think they can take the crown of the UK’s favourite girlband, they may have a fight on their hands!
The Risk cover Justin Bieber; chuck in a bit of Adele!
Comment
The Risk, who fell victim to The X Factor’s famous Curse Of Week 5 last year (Lucie Jones, Laura White… never forgotten), have uploaded a new cover of Justin Bieber’s ‘Boyfriend’… with a bit of Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’ thrown in for good measure. We can barely make out their opening message (damn you, echo-y room!) but the harmonies are spot on and the cover has already accumulated an amazing 13,000 hits in just a few short days. Watch Derry, Charlie, Ashford and Andy wrap their pipes around the Bieber smash below.

Rumour Has It: Adele talks VAT
Rumour has it Adele is very disappointed with this year’s Budget after VAT was extended to baked savoury goods, closing a loophole that allowed sausage rolls and pasties to be exempt. The 30 million album selling singer Adele may have said “Cor blimey, I love me a good baked pasty, but I ain’t made of cash”.

Adele – ‘Rumour Has It’ – Alarm Pop
Despite the fact that the entire planet and 3/4 of the population of Mars all own at least 6 copies of Adele’s album 21, she’s going full steam ahead with a brand new single from the CD. Next up will be the Ryan Tedder-produced ‘Rumour Has It’, which sees her return to the slightly more upbeat and bitchy side that was previously showcased in ‘Rolling In The Deep’.
With thrashing drums, handclaps and a screechy cry of “BLESS YOUR SOULS” popping up halfway through, it’s a nice change from the emotionally heavy and deep ‘Someone Like You’ – and that’s why we’ve picked it as our song of the day. Listen to ‘Rumour Has It’ by Adele below.

Adele, Rihanna, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown – Grammy Awards 2012 performances: the good, the bad and the Roman
The Grammy Awards – an influential event designed to celebrate and showcase some of America’s finest musical artists, or an excuse for everyone to try and outdo each other with outrageous costumes, wacky props and controversial performances (or in Gaga’s case, some serious attention seeking)? We’ll let you lot be the judge of that.
Couldn’t bring yourself to stay awake into the early hours of the morning yesterday to watch the entire show? As usual, we’ve done all the hard work for you. Keep reading to see performances from the likes of Adele, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna and Coldplay at this year’s Grammy Awards – the good, the bad… And the Roman!

JLS’s new album – 5 things you *need* to know
Comments
JLS are 3 records down in their attempt to release one album every year for a whole decade, but now that the band are essentially granddads in the pop world (and last November’s Jukebox was definitely not an MP! fave), can they pull out all the stops and make the next one an unmissable hit? Read on for the 5 things you need to know about JLS’s upcoming 4th album and make your own mind up…
PRODUCERS.
The list of hit makers working on the 4th JLS album is enough to make any pop fan jump up and down like a maniac. From Babyface (Beyoncé, Madonna), to Bangladesh (Rihanna, Ke$ha), all the way through to Sean Garrett (Jay-Z, Usher). Plus, the boys have been in the studio with the legendary Darkchild. *Bangs head on ceiling*

Lana Del Rey inspired by another Femme Fatale, Olly Murs announces new single, Adele set for surprise duet and brand new Parade choreography – gossip!
Lana Del Rey is currently outselling the entire UK Top Ten with her incredible debut album Born To Die, but the mysterious singer has admitted that she’s not usually inspired by other female artists. But luckily she does have a soft spot for the biggest Femme Fatale of them all – Britney Spears! She says, “There is something about Britney that compelled me – the way she sings and just the way she looks.”
According to Labrinth, Adele and Tinie Tempah really are hoping to work on a duet together. ”We talked about doing that, so it might just end up happening this year.” We’re secretly crossing our fingers to hear Adele rapping about being down with the freshers, but if it’s more a case of ‘Empire State Of Mind’ 2012, then that will be fine too.
Brit Award nominee and Xtra Factor presenter Olly Murs has revealed that the third single to be released from his latest album will be ‘Oh My Goodness’. The track will be available on April 1st with a new b-side – and whilst we’re not necessarily Olly’s biggest fan, we reckon it’s not that bad. Listen to ‘Oh My Goodness’ here. Trumpets ahoy.
And finally, yesterday MP! and Thing went to watch Parade in their gruelling and demanding rehearsals. We got to see a sneak preview of some brand new choreography (Thing tried to secretly film it, but put his finger over the lens by accident) and according to the band our faces lit up like children on Christmas day! A+ girls.

Chart Update – Find out where Jessie J, Pixie Lott, Rizzle Kicks, Cher Lloyd and 1D have finished!
2Comments
*In best radio DJ voice* It’s Sunday, it’s just gone 7pm, the chart results are in!
It was a good week for:
Jessie J. ‘Domino’ has made it two weeks in a row at the top of the charts. How long until that well-known pizza company starts using the song to advertise Two for Tuesdays?
Pixie Lott. ‘Kiss the Stars’ has clawed it’s way up into the top ten and right now is sitting comfortably at Number 8. As Miley says, it’s all about the climb.
One Direction. After premiering their video for ‘One Thing’ last week the boys have finished this week at Number 28. Who wants to bet the track will be the Valentines week Number 1 when it’s officially released on 12th February?
Cher Lloyd. The other big new entry this week is ‘Want U Back’ which also gets its official release next month, the track has entered the midweeks at Number 26, that’s two ahead of 1D.
Gotye. ‘Somebody I used to Know’ is one of this week’s biggest climbers (up 15 to Number 21) which may have something to do with clever cover version that’s currently sweeping Twitter. Watch it so you know what everyone’s talking about at school tomorrow.
It was a bad week for:
Rizzle Kicks. OK Number 2 in the singles chart is exactly soul-shattering but we’re sure the boys were hoping for their first Number 1 without the help of Olly Murs. There’s always next week.
Enter Shikari. After this very loud and shouty band entered the mid-week album chart at Number 1 we were a tad worried. But luckily pop has triumphed over the bullies with Adele moving back into the top spot and Ed Sheeran just behind. In your face.

JLS unveil ‘Proud’, Jessie J for IOW festival, Miley Cyrus returns and X Factor 2012 news – Gossip!
JLS unveiled their shiny new single ‘Proud’ yesterday. As we told you earlier this week, the track is the Official Sports Relief single and is released on March 18th. Our verdict? It’s predictably uplifting and stuffed full with emotional high notes, listen to it here. As part of their Sports Relief role, the band will also perform ‘Proud’ and lots of other hits at a special one-off concert at London’s O2 Arena on March 24. AND! Olly Murs and Rizzle Kicks will be there! Tickets go on sale at 10am tomorrow. We could insert the obvious “we’re so proud” statement here but we know you JLSters have got that one covered.
You’ve got three guesses, who’s broken a US chart record for the longest time spent at Number 1 for a British act? No it’s not Matt Cardle. That’s right Adele! The singer has broken a record previously set by The Beatles and Pink Floyd after 21 spent it’s 16th week in the top spot on the US Billboard 200 this week. Thrillingly she’s also matched the success of the Titanic soundtrack.
Occasional singer and full-time red carpet accessory Miley Cyrus has said she’d love to play Carrie Bradshaw in a planned Sex and the City prequel series. Miley admitted the lead role in The Carrie Diaries, created by the people behind Gossip Girl, would be “really cool.”
Simon Cowell has hinted he will return to this year’s X Factor. Following his absence from the judging table in 2011 Si says he’s signed up for the second series of the US show “but anything could happen regarding the British one.” Gary Barlow’s wiping away the tears of rejection with fifty pound notes as we type.
In other X Factor news, hilariously Cheryl Cole has been voted “Best Judge” in Virgin Media’s TV Awards. She was up for her doomed stint on X Factor USA and faced competition from the show’s more permanent judges and loads of other TV personalities. Proud Chez tweeted the results to Simon Cowell this morning saying: “Oh my!” And all in a couple days work, LOVE this.”
It’s still freezing but the first bits of summer festival news are starting to filter through. Jessie J has just been confirmed for the Isle of Wight line-up in June. Jessie joins Example, Stooshe and Magnetic Man at the festival but the organisers have admitted they’ve deliberately stayed away from booking “pop acts” this year, instead opting for craggy headliners Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Tom Petty. MP! are launching a petition.

Mid-week Chart update- Find out where Jessie J, Pixie Lott and 1D have placed
53Comments
It’s Wednesday, it’s just gone 4pm which means the mid-week chart results are in!
It’s been a good week (so far) for:
Jessie J. ‘Domino’ is still topping the singles chart after getting the Number 1 spot on Sunday. Her closest rivals for this weekend’s top spot are new entry Swedish House Mafia vs. Knife Party and David Guetta. We know who we’re rooting for…
One Direction. After premiering their video for ‘One Thing’ on Friday the boys have entered the chart at Number 31, ahead of the single’s official release on 12th February. We’re predicting they’re just gonna keep climbing until Sunday. Niall’s dad dancing definitely has something to do with it.
Cher Lloyd. The other big new entry this week is ‘Want U Back’ which gets its official release next month, the track has entered the midweeks at Number 29 just beating 1D.
Kelly Clarkson and Pixie Lott. After some harsh words from MP! on Sunday these two have pulled their socks up with ‘Stronger’ climbing ten places to Number 11 and ‘Kiss The Stars’ now at Number 7. Good work girls.
It’s been a bad week (so far) for:
Pop albums. A very loud and shouty band called Enter Shikari have entered the mid-week album chart at Number 1 leaving Adele, Bruno Mars and Ed Sheeran in their wake. Big bullies.
Check back on Sunday for the final chart results!
