Thor: The Dark World: 5 Things You Need To Know

We haven’t loved a high octane, hammer wielding superhero as much as Thor since Super Mario! Those luscious locks, the rippling biceps and all this action… we had high expectations. Thankfully, Thor’s second outing is as good, if not even better, than his first!

Here’s 5 things you need to know about Thor: The Dark World:

1 Forget Thor… with in 20 minutes of the flick opening, we had rechristened Chris Hemsworth’s mythic hero “Phwoar” after a shot of some muscly nips!

2Make sure you bring some Kleenex with you! This movie is an emotional ride, almost as tearjerkingly upsetting as The Notebook- okay, maybe not quite that sad.

3 Natalie Portman looks absolutely stunning throughout the movie and even rocks some ancient nordic fashion. We could see the tunic and breastplates making a comeback next season.

The first Thor film was set mainly in our world, but this time around we see Thor travel through lots of different worlds that look amazing on the big screen.

5 In true Marvel fashion, there is an epic cliffhanger at the end. Why do we have to wait for 2 years to find out what happens next!?

Check out the trailer below and be sure to check Thor: The Dark World out when it hits cinemas today!

MP! Reviews Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones

Maximum Pop! film buff Jon Hornbuckle went along to a top secret screening of City of Bones, the first film of the Mortal Instruments saga. Here’s what he thought…

The Mortal Instruments is a series of books by author Cassandra Clare and City of Bones is the first of six! It’s already confirmed that the second book, City of Ashes, is also due to be adapted into a film and will be released in 2014.

The cast includes Lily Collins (starred in Abduction with Taylor Lautner – swoon!) and Jamie Campbell-Bower who has starred in the Twilight movies and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. If you’re a fan of those films then you’re guaranteed to love Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.

The plot revolves around a young girl called Clary (Lily Collins), who discovers she is a Shadowhunter, a half-angel warrior. After a bizarre string of events and her Mum disappearing, Clary must join forces with other Shadowhunters to defeat demons posing as humans.

There are some genuinely scary moments in this film or maybe we’re just not very brave? But it’s jam packed with action and twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout. It’s a little complicated remembering all the different groups of baddies but after a while it’s easy to get to grips with.

Yes, there’s a love triangle. But then that’s why we love these films, isn’t it!? Beneath all the action, the scary moments and great storylines, it all comes down to unlikely characters getting romantic and then off and on and off- it’s like a film version of R-Patz and K-Stew… oh wait, wasn’t that what Twilight was?

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is out now!

Here’s a trailer, check it out…

Monsters University – 5 Things You Should Know

Here at MP! Towers, we love Pixar movies and Monsters Inc is one of our all time favourites. We were ecstatic when the clever arty folk at Pixar have decided to do a prequel to that classic film which is out in the UK on July 12th. Our film buff Jon Hornbuckle attended one of the first screenings in the world of Monsters University and here is his list of 5 things you should know!

1 Monsters University is a prequel to the original Monsters Inc film so we get to see Mike and Sully as kids and how they met at university. We weren’t sure about this idea at first but it lends itself to loads of jokes which just keep coming thick and fast throughout the entire film.

2 Mike and Sully haven’t always been chums. They begin the film as frenemies then they are enemies, then friends, then frenemies and finally BFF’s. Phew, and we thought our friendship groups were dramatic!

3 Monsters University makes plenty of references to Monsters Inc but doesn’t rely upon making cheap jokes or using the same characters. We do get to see Randall as a good guy though and we learn how he became the villain who we all grew up scared of!

The best bits in the film are the Scare Games which is sort of like the Olympics for monsters. Mike’s team doesn’t seem like athletes but they train hard and well, if I told you anymore I might ruin it for you!

5If you are still undecided whether you want to see the flick, even after all the great stuff we listed, then take one look at how cute Mike looks here and you won’t be able to resist.

Monsters University is out on 12th July and it gets our seal of approval!
