All your pop goss needs in six bite-sized stories. Let’s go… First up, bad news if you paid out for tickets to see The Voice UK Live later this year. It was confirmed yesterday that the 11-date tour has been cancelled due to “lack of ticket sales”. Poor Leanne, Vince and err…
After finding themselves inside the top 5 last month, the Lawson boys are set to reveal their second single at 7pm TODAY. Tune in to Alex on IN:DEMAND to hear the single first. We’re hoping for something a little less dull than debut ‘When She Was Mine’ – c’mon boys! More details.
Congrats to pop ones-to-watch and MP! favourites Luminites whose song ‘Top Of The World (All Dressed Up)’ has been used in an advert for Microsoft’s bing search engine. You can watch the TV advert here and listen to the original mix of ‘All Dressed Up’ over on YouTube.
Parade are in the studio and have been working with Tim Powell, Ed Drewett, Rymez, Jamal Hadaway and… STEFAN FROM THE MIDNIGHT BEAST. Yes, the guy who did *that* Ke$ha parody and seminal pop moment, the sexual-exploitation-referencing, ‘Lez Be Friends’. This should be brilliant. PIC.
Talking of brilliant music, we were lucky enough to spend some time with producer K-Gee who masterminded energetic pop tuuuuune ‘Intro Intro’ for Little Nikki. We heard some other tracks he’s working on for LN and The Woos Woos and we’re pleased to tell you that they sound *massive*. Prepare to be impressed.
Bit old, but worth another look. Zayn Malik naked tweet. We repeat ZAYN MALIK NAKED TWEET. *Splish splash*

Luminites – Gotta Get Into It – Alarm Pop
Luminites are five very attractive and immeasurably talented pop stars (including a beat-boxer) that are slowly making a name for themselves, building a strong fan base by performing at schools around the country – think Cover Drive meets N-Dubz and you’ll only be halfway there. Yesterday they unveiled brand new song ‘Gotta Get Into It’, a fresh and instantly catchy tune that features a line about The Wanted’s ‘Glad You Came’. Seriously, what more could you want?
We know for a fact that you’ll be hearing loads more about this band over the next few months – so be the first of your mates to jump on the Luminites bandwagon and watch the video for ‘Gotta Get Into It’ below.

*In other words we just made the pop stars do all the hard work.
NEW MP! gets shout outs from massive British Pop Stars
Everyone knows that pop stars don’t ‘do’ queueing but it looks like they’ve made an exception today, as they’re lining up to congratulate us on our new look website. Parade, Oh My!, Twenty Twenty, The Wanted, GMD3 and Luminites have all taken time from their busy pop-star schedules to give MP! a massive shout out on twitter. So now you know where they hang out when they’re not busy recording hits, hitting high notes and spending their millions. Thanks guys.
MP! Sound of 2012
It’s the time of year where all music types start trying to predict who’s going to blow up and take over the world in the next 12 months, and MP! are no exception. With the BBC announcing Michael Kiwanuka as the winner of their Sound Of 2012 and MTV revealing their Brand New list, we thought now was the best time to share our own list of artists we think will be taking it TO THE MAX in 2012.
Oh My!
Oh My! have had a busy 2011 laying the foundation work for what we hope and expect will be an explosive 2012. Their track ‘Dirty Dancer’ is probably our favourite song of lastyear and their cover of ‘Higher’ by The Saturdays (who they supported on tour in December) is pretty stellar too. Of all the girl groups to have been formed recently, Oh My! are probably the coolest, helped in no small part by the fact that they are mentored by hit-choon maker Example. The British public will be queuing up to ride the Oh My! bandwagon this year, and MP! are proud to say we got here first!
Mohombi
Mohombi is absolutely huge around the world and with his stomping club-pop it’s not hard to see why. The first signing to RedOne’s own music label, he’s been carving out a path collaborating with established artists such as Pitbull and Nicole Scherzinger and releasing amazing single after amazing single… just not in the UK. His first worldwide track will be ‘In Your Head’ which samples a famous song by The Cranberries and is utterly infectious. Mohombi’s stardom is about to reach stratospheric levels – are you ready for him?
Lawson
Lawson built up a loyal base of fans by releasing acoustic covers of popular hits, chatting on Twitter and playing as many live shows as they possibly could, including a high-profile support slot on The Wanted tour. Once all the hard work was done, they got signed to major label Polydor and look set to release their first album in the first half of this year. With solid stadium-pop tunes like ‘Red Sky’ and ‘Standing In The Dark’ under their belt, and great covers of ‘Firework’ and ‘Marry The Night’ we reckon Lawson will be inescapable come summertime.
Luminites
Admittedly we don’t know all that much about Luminites other than the fact that we’ve been obsessed with their free download ‘All Dressed Up’ since the minute we first heard it. We get a great vibe from them though, which is why they’ve made it on to our To The Max 2012 list. The individual members are talented musicians as well as singers, which makes them stand out from a lot of other young pop acts, and their sound is a fresh mix of keys, acoustic guitar, beatboxing and singing. We look forward to hearing more!
Little Mix
The first girlband in X Factor history to not only make it to the final, but also WIN the entire thing and MP! favourites since week 4 when they performed Katy Perry’s ‘E.T.’ how could Little Mix fail to be a massive success in 2012? Something about Little Mix has captured the public’s imagination – we can’t wait for Perrie, Jesy, Leigh-Anne and Jade to get their next #1.
Cover Drive
Barbados act Cover Drive already had a Top 10 single in 2011 with the amazing ‘Lick Ya Down’ (it’s a Bajan term that doesn’t mean anything sexy) and having heard their new track ‘Twilight’ it seems obvious to MP! that the four-piece will have no problem finding their way into the upper reaches of the chart with their caribbean flavoured pop in 2012. Amanda, Barry, Jamar and T-Ray hung out with us when we were still teentoday.co.uk this summer and you can watch the video here.
maximumpop.co.uk
Promising to bring you the best new acts first – there’s bound to be break-through stars bursting through the pop bubble and into the mainstream all the way through 2012 and who will be letting you know the ones to watch? MP! of course! We’ve got huge things planned for 2012 so stick with us for the best music news, exclusives and ones to watch – FIRST!
